During the upcoming Fuorisalone 2025, Linificio e Canapificio Nazionale is pleased to announce its support for Actuated Knit//Textilemorphosis, a project promoted by TextilesHUB – Textile Architecture Network, an interdepartmental laboratory of DABC (Department of Architecture, Built Environment and Construction Engineering) at Politecnico di Milano, which combines academic research and industry to imagine new possibilities for living through textiles.
The project stems from the results of MUSA – Living Lab Tessile Too Cool to Go Wasted and offers a profound and visionary exploration of the integration between ultra-lightweight textile construction systems, advanced technologies, and natural materials such as linen and hemp. It is a journey through sustainability, aesthetics, and transformability of built environments, inviting us to rethink buildings as a “third skin”: lightweight, protective, and high-performing.
Within this framework, Linificio e Canapificio Nazionale provided assorted yarn spools for the creation of Knit Your Stories, an interactive installation developed by PhD students from the TextilesHUB group. The project, hosted in Pavilion One – the entrance point to the exhibition – is an ode to textile storytelling, where linen becomes a social and architectural connection element.
A material with millennia-old tradition and a profoundly sustainable soul, linen is used to outline three interconnected circular areas designed to stimulate interaction among visitors while offering shade and comfort. The reactive structures, brought to life through the integration of sensors and actuators, demonstrate the versatility of yarns as intelligent and active materials capable of responding to environmental changes and enhancing living and urban spaces’ well-being.
The choice of linen perfectly aligns with the concept of Actuated Knit: a natural, durable, recyclable material that harmonizes with the vision of sensitive, sustainable, and transformable architecture.
The exhibition includes 11 pavilions and 4 display stations ranging from water collection through textile nets to experimentation with innovative materials such as mycelium and regenerative fibers. The entire journey, curated by professors, researchers, students, and PhD candidates from Politecnico di Milano, promotes a holistic design approach where aesthetics, functionality, and circularity become tools for addressing contemporary environmental and social challenges.
Linificio e Canapificio Nazionale is proud to contribute to this vision, reaffirming its commitment to exploring new frontiers in sustainable textiles and supporting projects where innovation and research translate into tangible transformative experiences.
